Oracle 19c with EBS

The Oracle Database 19c is a major release that is the successor to the 12c and 18c line of products. Premiere support will last until March 2023, with extended support available until 2026. What Platforms Are Compatible with 19c?

You don’t have to change your platform with this release. Oracle Database 19c is compatible with:

What About Oracle EBS Versions?

The new release has been tested and Oracle gave its stamp of approval for partners to run it with the on-premises Oracle EBS 12.2. According to comments from Oracle admins, the certification of EBS 12.1 is in the final stages of certification.

What’s New for Oracle EBS with the DB 19c?

Here’s a summary of the required architecture changes needed to make this happen the right way:

CDB Architecture

The container database architecture supports multitenant architecture so a single instance of an app can be used by different users with various security access. SoftArt Solutions can help your IT team configure the impacted applications during the implementation — which includes a conversion from the Oracle EBS database to a pluggable database.

Important Notes

Please note the following as you plan your upgrade to CDB:

  • A single (tenant) PDB is the only configuration certified for Oracle EBS with Database 19c release.
  • Multiple PDBs aren’t supported with Oracle EBS.
  • There are no plans to certify a non-CDB environment with 19c.

What Are the Specifics for PL/SQL Directories?

Important Note: The UTL_FILE_DIR database initialization no longer works in 19c. During the upgrade, you must move your UTL_FILE_DIR parameters to db directory objects. There’s an EBS utility that does this for you and it also manages PL/SQL input/output directories.

The following platforms and versions are supported by the vendor:

Linux x86-64

  • SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 SP3+
  • Red Hat Enterprise – Linux 7.4+
  • Oracle Linux 7.4+

Oracle Solaris (SPARC systems, 64-bit)

Oracle Solaris 11.3 or 11.4 +

What Database Options Are Certified?

This list includes supported options, but not all of them have yet been certified by Oracle EBS. However, Oracle states that the generic documentation applies whether each item is certified or not:

  • Advanced Compression
  • SecureFiles
  • Database Partitioning
  • Database In-Memory
  • Native PL/SQL Compilation
  • Oracle Application Express (APEX)

Virtual Private Database (VPD)
